Ready-to-Eat Trends: Breakfast—A New Growth Driver in Russia!
The ready-to-eat breakfast category is rapidly gaining momentum in the Russian retail market. According to X5, in May 2026, sales of breakfast items rose by 37% compared to the previous year, while the number of shoppers increased by 30%.
Breakfast items currently account for 7% of all ready-to-eat food sales by unit, but this category is showing the strongest growth. Salads and bowls (30%) and fast food (22%) remain the leaders.
Interestingly, during the morning hours (4:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.), one in five receipts at stores includes ready-to-eat meals. The primary customer base is women (58% of purchases).
